[KOREA TRIP 2016] Yeondeunghoe Lotus Lantern Festival (연등회)

Hello there ~ On my previous post I told you how our trip to Seoul started and introduced you to our homestay family at Bucheon. This post is continuation to our first day - so much happened on the first day I wanted to share the first day in two parts. Yeondeunghoe Lotus Lantern Festival (연등회) is an annual festival held to celebrate Buddha's birthday and lasts for few days. It has many events and performances in its schedule but we only saw the lantern parade which was held on the same day we arrived to Seoul.

The parade was held from 7PM to 9.30PM along Jongno Street. The place where we were watching was near the Jonggak Station. Before the parade started there was some sort of warm-up program going on - music playing, some man wearing traditional clothing dancing along and a host hosting the event while making the audience sitting the street across dancing on their chairs, clapping along etc. The streets and also cafes & restaurants were filled with people watching the parade and there were police everywhere to control the traffic. Oh ! I have to say ALL police officers I saw were soooo good looking ;W;

The lanterns were so beautiful - so were the clothes of the people who were walking at the parade. In Finland there aren't things like this. I mean the most similar thing I can think is maybe Samba Carnival... I'm going to let the photos speak for themselves. There's also a video at the end so please watch it to get a better view on the beautiful lanterns.

Korea Trip 2016 Lotteria Bulgogi Burger

After 9PM we got a bit cold and hungry - we hadn't really eaten anything on that day - so we went to find the closest place where is food and where we can watch the lantern parade. We chose to go to Lotteria which was pretty much right behind us. We both took Bulgogi burger meals. Unlike in McDonald's - the fries didn't have salt at all. I didn't even find any salt to add so I just ate them plain because I was so hungry. The bulgogi burger was good but it tasted sweet - that was a bit different from what I expected bulgogi to taste like.
